Outdoor education plays a very important role within a child’s educational setting and is a key part of their personal development. Zenith Leisure values its role in Learning Outside The Classroom (LOTC) in a variety of settings either in the school grounds, a local woodland or park. A high level of educational value can be achieved no matter what the location.
Zenith Leisure has a variety of 6 week packages especially designed and written for primary schools. They cover Team Building and Communication, Archery, Mountain Biking, The National Navigation Award Scheme for Young People, Bushcraft.
Cross Curricular Links
Zenith Leisure is able to build and develop our activity packages to meet the current study areas of the groups we are working with. This could be a Coasteering and Costal Exploration Day for a group studying the Coast, or a day’s paddling on the River Esk as part of a geography field trip.
Zenith Leisure are keen to provide a practical outdoor experience to deepen the learning of the young people that we work with.
Learning Outside The Classroom Vision
“We believe that every young person should experience the world beyond the classroom as an essential part of learning and personal development, whatever their age, ability or circumstances”. – LOTC
Zenith leisure can put a wide variety of packages together to support areas of the curriculum in KS1 and KS2 and also combine with other studies, such as geography, numeracy, literacy, sports and science. There are also growing avenues to use ICT to report, record and analyse outcomes and evidence if required.
We specialise in team and individual development activity days on school sites. They can be set up for different year groups to participate in as challenge events for houses, class teams or just as a fun days or even sports days with a difference. Holding the events in the school grounds makes them very cost effective and needs minimal planning by teachers.
All the Zenith Leisure team have worked in educational settings for a number of years and have a full enhanced DBS in place. They are all fully aware of national agendas and most importantly the Every Child Matters Agenda, and strongly feel that they have an important role to play in supporting it. Here at Zenith Leisure, we truly believe that “Every Child Does Matter”
Risk awareness - the knowledge that risks can be identified and managed - increases confidence about new or uncertain situations
Personal and social development - gearing activities for success allows for the development of self-confidence and self-esteem
Citizenship - learning how to support, lead and follow - being a team player develops social skills and a sense of responsibility and community
New ideas for physical exercise - suggesting alternatives to ball sports and team games
Connection with the natural environment - a developed awareness of green issues
Recreation - provides fun and enjoyment, stress relief, purposeful leisure
An activity course can be directed at the Outdoor & Adventurous Activity targets of the PE Curriculum, but it can also meet many of the requirements of the Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education agenda.
All activities are fully planned with the school prior to commencing. This ensures that you are getting the best service and outcomes for the children and staff. We at Zenith Leisure believe that a good relationship with the school and staff is the key to a successful and safe activity.
